Terrazzo is a concrete product made by mixing aggregates such as crushed stone, glass, and quartz with a cementitious binder, followed by surface grinding and polishing. Terrazzo produced using a cement-based binder is referred to as inorganic terrazzo, while terrazzo formulated with an epoxy binder is also known as epoxy terrazzo or organic terrazzo.
Traditional terrazzo boasts unique advantages such as its low cost, versatile color options, and ease of construction, making it a significant player in the Chinese market. 2. Weathering, corrosion, and short lifespan. Poor corrosion resistance—using highly corrosive detergents will significantly reduce its service life.
3. Reduced impermeability leads to numerous pores on the floor surface, which easily trap dirt and grime, contaminating the terrazzo flooring.
Methods to Overcome the Drawbacks of Terrazzo:
The primary reasons for these drawbacks of terrazzo flooring are insufficient surface strength and numerous surface defects, such as holes. Therefore, we must find effective solutions to address these issues. Speaking of this, the answer becomes quite clear: using a concrete sealer and hardener can effectively resolve the problems associated with terrazzo floors. This product penetrates deeply into the surface—typically 3 to 8 mm—to seal and fill the pores and cracks on the terrazzo floor, creating a dense, unified structure. After application, the finished floor achieves high gloss, excellent water resistance, superior corrosion protection, enhanced impermeability, easy maintenance, and an exceptionally long service life.
Terrazzo flooring can be treated with concrete sealers and hardeners. Since terrazzo is also made from concrete, these sealers and hardeners represent a new generation of advanced flooring materials specifically designed to address the issues of high hardness and low gloss typically associated with concrete floors.
