Advantages and Mechanical Properties of Terrazzo

Terrazzo (also known as ground stone) is a concrete product made by mixing aggregates such as crushed stone, glass, and quartz with a cementitious binder, followed by surface grinding and polishing. Terrazzo made with a cement-based binder is referred to as inorganic terrazzo, while terrazzo produced using an epoxy binder is called epoxy terrazzo or organic terrazzo. Additionally, based on the construction process, terrazzo can be categorized into site-cast terrazzo and precast panel terrazzo flooring.
Traditional terrazzo, with its unique advantages such as low cost, customizable color and patterns, and ease of construction, enjoys a vast market in China. To date, terrazzo flooring has been widely used in urban and rural buildings across the country, totaling over one billion square meters.
Advantages of terrazzo:
(1) After high-gloss polishing of terrazzo surfaces, the brightness reaches above 70 to 90 degrees, achieving dustproof and anti-slip performance comparable to marble quality.
(2) Wear-resistant terrazzo flooring achieves a surface hardness rating of 6 to 8.
(3) Ready-made or precast terrazzo tiles, available in customizable patterns and colors that can be freely combined.
(4) The new terrazzo flooring is crack-resistant, impervious to heavy vehicle traffic, resistant to dragging by heavy objects, and maintains dimensional stability without shrinkage or deformation.
(5) Dust-free and highly clean; cleanliness meets the requirements of high-cleanliness environments such as pharmaceuticals and chip manufacturing.
(6) Inorganic terrazzo is non-combustible, non-sparking, resistant to aging, stain-resistant, corrosion-resistant, and emits no odor or any form of pollution.
(7) It boasts vibrant, glossy colors. If enhanced shine is desired, apply floor wax or perform crystallization (without compromising its antistatic properties). Alternatively, harden and reinforce the surface with polished terrazzo flooring, which can maintain its high luster over the long term even without regular waxing.
(8) The freshly made terrazzo decorative dividing strips are horizontally and vertically aligned, with no gaps between the strips. The connections are tightly sealed, ensuring excellent overall aesthetic appeal. Commercial terrazzo allows for any desired pattern design, delivering outstanding decorative beauty.
(9) The architectural and mechanical performance is identical to that of high-quality terrazzo flooring used in various construction applications, meeting the requirements of the national standard GB50209-2002 as well as the standards specified in JC507-1993 for architectural terrazzo products.

(4) Strength: Greater than 75–100#
(5) Abrasion Resistance: Exhibits no significant wear after 8,000 revolutions under a load of 500g.
(6) Dust Generation: <1 mg/cm².
